Dear SIMONE SAYSAMONE,
Last week, at the UN Millennium Development Goals Review Summit, leaders from around the world came together to identify solutions to the biggest problems facing our planet.

While the problems are daunting, the renewed commitments to progress are inspiring. But if I learned one thing from last week's events, it's that realizing the MDGs is going to take more than promises from world leaders -- it's going to take action from all of us.
You're already making a difference through your support of the United Nations Foundation, but now we need you to amplify your voice. Ask your friends, family, and colleagues to join you and the UN Foundation. It’s simple to send them an e-card inviting them to sign up.

Your support has moved our world much closer to achieving the MDGs -- the 2005 commitments of United Nations members to dramatically reduce global poverty. For example:
* The need for malaria-preventing bed nets has declined from 300 million to just 30 million.
* The number of people living in extreme poverty is down by 130 million.
* We've seen a 78 percent decrease in cases of measles.
* 5 million people are walking today who would otherwise have been paralyzed by polio.
We have a unique opportunity to move even closer to eliminating preventable diseases and giving the world's poorest people the "hand up" they need to lift themselves out of extreme poverty. It starts with increasing awareness, because making people aware of solutions is the first step in creating change.
Show your commitment to moving us closer to the MDGs by telling your friends about our work today.
President Barack Obama's speech at the MDGs Review Summit emphasized the importance of innovations and partnerships in moving us closer to advancing the eight MDGs.

Innovation is bringing us new solutions and new ways to disseminate the ones we know work. Partnerships with the UN are reaching populations previously considered unreachable. And new innovations and partnerships on the horizon will bring us closer than ever before to eliminating preventable diseases and extreme poverty.
We're making real, tangible, measurable progress. I hope you'll help us close the gap by sharing the UN Foundation with the important people in your life. Please don't underestimate your power to influence and create change -- we can't do this without you.

Thank you again and we look forward to working with you in the months and years ahead,
Timothy E. Wirth President, United Nations Foundation and Better World Fund
P.S. I discussed these ideas with USAID Administrator Raj Shah last week in New York in front of an audience of hundreds of bloggers and online journalists. We talked about how your efforts are helping the United Nations make a positive impact in the lives of millions of people worldwide. You can watch our conversation now.
